40th Birthday Spectacular

This year, Westgate Concert Band celebrated its 40th anniversary with a birthday extravaganza! Members of band selected their favourite repertoire from concerts past, covering all 40 years of our history, with the associated stories and anecdotes presented by the players in recorded interviews. With a steady stream of photographs and newspaper articles from 1979 to 2019 projected above, and a loaded memorabilia table, Westgate Concert Band honoured its co-founders Derek Humphrey and Roy Hamilton, and the legacy they created.

We were delighted to have Derek Humphrey and Gaye Hamilton (on Roy’s behalf) address the band and our audience, and to hear our new Musical Directors, Nicole Marshall and Jacinta Ewers, speak about our bright future ahead. The atmosphere in the hall was abuzz with excitement, pride and nostalgia, with many an old face returned. Our fabulous singers graced the stage once more with their beautiful voices and we rounded out the night with our stalwart classic, ‘Instant Concert’. And of course, no birthday would be complete without cake and singing ‘Happy Birthday’!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our 40th celebration to make it such a memorable occasion. It’s the people who create a community, and the bonds we develop that transform us into family.
